1. Pets

Whilst we recognise that some people may wish to bring their pet, we must stress that with the exception of guide dogs, this is not possible. Members and guests have a right to expect a clean and healthy environment and some residual animal hairs are an inevitable consequence of allowing a pet on board. In these circumstances, an allergic reaction could spoil the visit of the next occupants and this is a risk that we are not prepared to take. The rule, therefore, is no pets and this is not negotiable.

2. Fishing

You may fish from your houseboat subject to local conditions and obtaining permission from reception.. Permission may be withdrawn at any time. You will need a National Rod Licence which can be bought to cover short periods from most Post Offices. Bring your own tackle as hiring is not always a practical proposition. Please return all fish to the water unharmed.
Note that most canal banks are leased to Angling Clubs thus denying fishing opportunities to offcomers.

3. Parking

Parking is available at all locations but is limited to one space per occupied boat. Please therefore avoid bringing more than one car if you can, as you are likely to be charged for parking a second vehicle.

4. Cash

Houseboat locations are all urban based and access to banks and cash machines is as you would expect.

5. Wildlife

If you walk or cycle along the canals, you will find yourselves close to a rich landscape of woods, water, meadows, fields and farmland and you can expect to see the wide varieties of the flora and fauna native to the British Isles. Consider buying one of the many handbooks available and, if you have a pair of binoculars, bring them too. Remember though, it is illegal to pick wildflowers or disturb nesting birds or other animals.

6. Occupancy

Each Canaltime Houseboat is designed, licensed and insured for occupancy by four or six persons which, for the avoidance of doubt, includes babies and small children. Please make sure that you arrive with no more than the maximum number of people for which the Houseboat is made - this will avoid embarrassment on both sides when occupancy is refused.
